Valentine’s Day Murder Mystery

Valentine’s Day Murder Mystery

Valentine’s Day is upon us again, and whether or not you have a special someone to share it with, what could be better to enjoy the celebration of your favorite martyred saint than with a Valentine’s Day Murder Mystery? Whether you are a die-hard romantic and lean into the traditions of the holiday or a cynic who eschews the sappy lovey-dovey nonsense of February 14th, Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries has the game for you!

Romantic Murder Mysteries, You Say?

Okay, I know that a murder mystery game doesn’t sound very romantic, but I pose this question for you to ponder: what would Saint Valentine think? I mean, if you look at the legends of the saint (of which there are at least three men attributed to the name), he was beheaded by the pope for standing up for love! Sounds like a murder mystery to me.

Love transcends all… even species sometimes.

Now, if I were a betting lady, I would wager that Saint Valentine that came from Rome (not to be confused with the other two) would enjoy the Dastardly Deeds game Pandemic Murder Mystery. Obviously. That Valentine continued to marry young lovers after the Roman emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men because he wanted them to serve in his armies as single men. Sad, right? Well, Valentine decided that was unjust and kept marrying those couples. With my limited insight into the saint, I think he would agree that love shouldn’t be decided by any emperor or government. Yeah! In Pandemic Murder Mystery there is the hint of illicit romances between scientists who represent their countries’ government that is, needless to say, taboo when you are trying to protect the fate of the world from the threat of an uncontrolled pandemic… wow, that sounds familiar.

The second of our namesake Valentines also shares the same story of being beheaded by Claudius II and was said to be the bishop of Terni, Italy. I like the story attributed to him that is saccharine in its romanticism; that Valentine gave a rose to a fighting couple and reminded them to love as if they had one heart. Aww. Now, I bet he could help the fighting couple in Murder at Refuge Ridge Lodge!

In Single Tractor Mingle, players will be trying to meet potential partners to strike up romance with (and businesses and friendships). Maybe Valentine – the third one, not to be confused with his two brethren – would find his one true love during the course of the speed dating rounds of the aforementioned game. After all, one of the stories about Valentine was that he fell in love with his jailer’s daughter while imprisoned and awaiting his martyrdom. He’s the one attributed with sending the first “Valentine” in the form of a letter to his one true love. Sounds like he’d be good at determining who to form a romance with when he only had brief moments to establish a relationship!

Do I hear the ring of wedding bells?

Whomever was the real Valentine, if they are not one and the same, would surely enjoy Dastardly Deeds’ multitude of games and the romantic plotlines that are interwoven into the mysteries. Honorable mentions that touch on how love can embolden as well as deter characters from committing unthinkable acts are Celebrity Mixer Party, Serial Killer Social, Murder at a Microbrewery… huh, now that I think about it, almost all of Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries have a thread of romance as a plotline to various characters. Passion lends well to acts of murder!

Ehem, I’d like to thank Wikipedia for my extensive knowledge on the sad fate of the man (men?) we know as Saint Valentine.
