Pandemic Murder Mystery

The year is 2027. It has been almost 5 years since the last traces of the COVID-19 pandemic was extinguished. In the wake of the disaster, millions have died globally and economies are starting to make nascent steps towards recovery. To assure that future novel coronavirus strains don’t propagate in such a dangerous manner, in 2024 a loose assembly of independent investors formed several advanced research facilities located on 6 of the Earth’s continents. The funding and the management of the facilities are privately bankrolled and several of the world’s most affluent billionaires played a large part in their establishment. This effort was spearheaded by the brilliant Dutch Scientist Dr. Mica Janssen. Each laboratory would be staffed by a minimal team headed by one of the world’s leading virologists. Many questions were raised as to whether these were truly established for the betterment of humanity, for a PR stunt, or for something entirely more nefarious. As rumors circulated, public opinions were swayed in the favor of the pandemic research laboratories when they played a major role in squelching a potential disastrous virus identified in late 2025. During the first year of their operations, the laboratories were open to the public, and transparency was one of the initial factors for their success. Growing concern for the security of the deadly samples located on-site, however, caused the facilities to rescind public access and establish an advanced A.I. called the Viral Emergency Mitigation System (V.E.M.S.) to manage the network of laboratories. Failsafe systems were installed into every facility in the event that any nation or terrorist organization compromised the security of the internal samples. Due to a mysterious death in one of the laboratories, these failsafe measures have been initiated by V.E.M.S.

As the facilities all go into lock-down, it will be up to the players to determine whether or not a deadly virus is unleashed upon the world in Pandemic Murder Mystery.
