Halloween Murder Mysteries

A PSL and a Dastardly Deeds Murder Mystery:

It’s that time of year again. Time to unpack those moth-eaten sweaters and put away the flip-flops. Autumn is officially here, and there couldn’t be a better time to cozy up on a chilly evening with a PSL and a Dastardly Deeds Murder Mystery game! Well, at least one of those things. I’m not one for the sickly-sweet harbinger of Fall that is the infamous pumpkin spice latte, but to each their own (although I am writing this on national coffee day). I am, however, a fan of a great themed murder mystery or who-done-it game on a crisp autumn evening. At Dastardly Deeds, themed online parties are the ticket to a fun at-home evening spent with the friends that we’d normally be out on the town with. So, if you are like me and still aren’t ready to meet with anybody in person, a video chat-based murder mystery is just the thing to enjoy on a Friday evening!

You’ll never catch Karen without her PSL!

Halloween Party Murder Mysteries:

Halloween is just around the corner and costume parties are normally a go-to for the season. Unless your Halloween costume goes well with a 3-ply mask (you could always dress as a sexy first responder), I suggest getting yourself a great costume to wear while playing a character in one of Dastardly Deeds’ games. “But wait,” you say, “you guys don’t have a Halloween themed game!” In truth, all of our games can be played with a Halloween party at its core. I personally don’t believe in games reliant on any holiday theme because that’s the only time of year they can be fun, but rather in the idea that any murder mystery can be incorporated into said holiday. All you have to do is encourage your players to dress up as their character and have fun making up the costume! In our multitude of playtests I have dressed as a crazed nurse in Serial Killer Social, a hipster home brewer in Murder at a Microbrewery, a glam Hollywood big-shot in Celebrity Mixer Party, and a flashy wrestler manager in Wrestling Murder Mystery, to name a few. You can likewise tell your players to dress as their character, then that character dress up in costume. Ooh, how meta! If you want to host a Halloween party and can’t fathom not dressing up this year, give a shot at one of Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries! Heck, you could even make a day of it and play some drinking games or carve pumpkins together over the video service before or after your murder mystery!

Last year’s Halloween: out drinking… This year’s Halloween: playing a murder mystery!

Oktoberfest and Beerfest Murder Mysteries:

For the last decade, a group of our friends sat patiently online on a July day waiting for the Great American Beer Festival tickets to go on sale. It was a mad rush to grab a ticket before they sold out, and the event became one of our most looked forward to events of the Fall. Nothing screams autumn like a beer festival! With the large convention center GABF cancelled and Oktoberfest across the country on hiatus, what can one do to imbibe beer with no discretion and be applauded for it? (We’re all adults here at DDmystery; don’t drink if you’re underage. I mean, c’mon.) One of our upcoming games is Murder at a Microbrewery, and I dare say this game is a perfect replacement to the beer drinking events that we all miss this year. I personally like the idea of getting to drink, play a character, and stay in complete safety all while visiting with my friends. We all know that drinking and trying to keep masks on is a doomed prospect from the start (see: all the last-serve curfews throughout the states), so why not take the complications out of it and play a game through the internet? Dastardly Deeds has got you covered!

Fall Fun:

Autumn is my favorite time of year and this one is an odd one, but I’m grasping at some of my favorite traditions by way of video chats. I suggest you do the same to keep up with the season! So gather your friends by way of computer or phone and plan ahead for some PSL sipping, sweater wearing, costume planning, beer fest having, chilly weather Fall fun!
