Online Party Games

Online Party Games:

As someone who’s been a long time PC gamer, I don’t think of online party games the way most people nowadays do. When I think of online party games, I still can’t help but think back to the old days and spending hours trying to get your game to show up over a local area network on your friends’ computer. Then, after all that time trying to get your rudimentary real-time strategy game working, the damn thing would crash after only half an hour of gameplay. Things changed rapidly in the late 90s when the first massively multiplayer online games started to hit the market. I miss you so, sweet Asheron’s Call… As wildly popular as MMOs have become, they are not everyone’s cup of tea. While I’ve certainly played my fair share, I must admit that the toxic environments commonly created by these MMOs aren’t something that I necessarily relish or want to participate in anymore as an adult. When I talk about online party games now, I’m discussing the new era of games that have come out specifically to play in groups with your friends online. The spearhead of this new online style of gameplay is undoubtedly the slew of Jackbox games. I was already remarkably familiar with the company that makes Jackbox games from playing my classic “You Don’t Know Jack” CD-ROM from 1995. It was always a good time to sit around by the computer with friends and answer some of the warped and twisted trivia that they would come up with. The modern Jackbox games have put an entirely new swing on online party games.

Online Party Games Like Jackbox:

Within no time there was a bounty of imitators on the market trying to make online party games like Jackbox. While some of the online drawing and trivia games have their merits, there was just a lack of quality in the design by these third-party creators. One exception to this would include brand new games like Among Us, which has been taking the internet by storm. While I can’t claim that we’ve created online party games like Jackbox or Among Us, we’ve created games that are similar in a sense. The real difference in Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries games is that you are responsible for creating the ambiance and facilitating the gameplay with your friends. This might sound daunting at first but at Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries, we provide you with the tools and the setup that you will need to host a successful online murder mystery game. All you need to provide is a few friends (preferentially with a twisted sense of humor) and an online video service, most of which are free nowadays. I can make no claims that we have online party games just like Jackbox but we have created games that have murder, suspense, and deception. There are Dastardly Deeds Games that mimic online dating experiences and warped end of the world scenarios that are sure to elicit a laugh. While many of our games are overtly more ephemeral, I’ve enjoyed some of the hardest laughs of my life watching my friends do stupid things in costumes online.

Free Online Party Games:

As games like Jackbox have risen in popularity online, there have been multiple complaints that they are not free to use. I completely understand why they’re not free to use. I don’t want anything to do with free online party games. The first huge benefit of paid online party games is the production value. A second benefit is that you don’t have to sit through dozens of advertisements to play a simple online game with your friends. On top of that, you must take into consideration that most online party games like a Jackbox game only cost $15-$30. Depending on your level of disposable income this may seem like a lot, but if you find some willing friends to split the cost with you, paid online games can be affordable. They are especially affordable when you take into consideration that many mainstream titles can run upwards of $60 and everyone playing needs a copy. A Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries we endeavor to have games that are affordable for all players. This includes our currently free game Pandemic Murder Mystery, which is an ideal starter game for you and several friends to participate in a potentially world-ending scenario. On top of our free to play game, there are no Dastardly Deeds games that run more than $30. As mentioned earlier, this might seem like a bit of a hefty price for an individual but when you compare it to a $60-$100 board game, that’s downright cheap. Also, if you can get some willing participants to split the cost on a 15-player game, you’re looking at only $2 a person. Now that’s a night of cheap entertainment. I can’t recall having that much fun for that cost since Blockbuster and Hollywood Video movies were a thing. Do you remember renting those sweet VHS tapes?

Online Party Games with Friends:

The biggest downfalls of most MMOs was the fact that, despite being able to hook up with my friends online, I had to deal with a plethora of obnoxious children and trolls. The real benefit of playing an online party game with friends is just that, you can play the game with your friends. You don’t have to deal with all the horrible other people in the world. This is one of the biggest boons of playing online party games with friends. I also can guarantee playing a Dastardly Deeds online murder mystery game will put your friends in way more compromising positions than playing an MMO ever could. You simply can’t take someone rage quitting seriously when they’re wearing a wig and a fake mustache.

Online Party Games for Large Groups:

There is another factor that is lacking in almost every single other online party game. That is the ability to play online party games for large groups. I understand the term “large groups” is subjective based on you as an individual. For the context of this article, I’m inferring that large groups mean more than the eight to ten people that normally can play an online game like a Jackbox game. At Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries, we currently offer online party games that accommodate up to 20 players. While games for 20 players can certainly get wild, as long as you understand the video chat service you’re using there are a variety of ways to control your players and keep it from turning into a mad cacophony of screaming drunk people. Online party games for large groups are possible, and at Dastardly Deeds, we’ve been able to host them successfully in the past. While many of our online games only support up to a dozen players, new games coming out like Single Tractor Mingle can host up to 20 players or as little as 6, depending on the needs you have for your group. Single Tractor Mingle also has the potential for replayability if you’re playing with a smaller group of players.
