Murder Mystery Games

Murder Mystery Games at Home:

There are a lot of different visuals painted when you mention the term “murder mystery games”. For many of us, murder mystery games seem like something to be played in public with professionals, a large setting, and with a crowd of people. Due to recent complications, of which I don’t think I need to expand upon, this opportunity for social recreational games has been dearly missed by many of us. That doesn’t mean that we can’t still play murder mystery games at home. The fact of the matter is, playing murder mystery games at home opens an entire world of possibilities. Not only does this expand on the options for gameplay, but unlike mass-produced pre-packaged games that are overly scripted and planned out, this opens new styles of discourse. With dozens of different video chat programs available for free, at Dastardly Deeds we give you the tools and it’s up to your creativity to become the actors and the storytellers of your world. While my friends may not have the punch lines or the delivery that whatever flavor-of-the-week stand-up comedian has, the inside jokes and deep contextual humor spawned from knowing one another creates a setting for some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. We have entered the golden age of role-playing games and murder mystery games at home. Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries has new games to satiate your unquenchable thirst for new online who-done-its.

Murder Mystery Actors:

A surprising number of murder mystery games assume that every individual has no capacity to improvise, pretend, or have any creative thoughts independent of a prewritten script. I know that’s BS and the fact is that anyone can be a murder mystery actor. If you’re about to tell me, “oh but Jesse, I can’t act” I’m going to stop you right there. Take a moment to contextualize your daily interactions with other people. As humans, we’re always acting. We put on facades and alter our mood based on situations daily. We adapt and rationalize our behavior in various groups and certain situations to fit the mood. At a fundamental level, this is acting. The next time you’re about to tell someone that you can’t be a murder mystery actor, remember your interactions throughout your daily life. Remember how you put on an air talking to the gas station attendant when you exclaimed you wanted the jalapeno cream cheese taquito and not the chicken taquito. Remember how you slyly placed that little bit of a subconscious hint in your boss’s mind that one of your coworkers is a shit bag. Remember that time at Grandma’s house where you almost dropped an F-bomb, but we’re able to stop yourself just in time. You are all murder mystery actors simply waiting to make your debut.

Murder Mystery Box Games:

Murder mystery box games have become incredibly popular over the last few years. I especially equate this with the rise in the popularity of different escape rooms across the country and the world. This style is excellent for people who desire a rigid format in their gameplay, and for people who don’t want to know how warped their friends are deep down inside. At Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries, we do things a little bit differently. Murder mystery box games aren’t my style. In many ways I find the context behind them to be far too constraining and as a host, replaying the game is either stale or in many cases impossible. Most murder mystery box games are truly one-hit wonders. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not above sitting down with some friends (albeit online anymore) and playing Catan for the umpteenth time, but there comes a time when you want something more out of your games. When we formed Dastardly Deeds games, first and foremost on our minds was to create something unique and complex. While our initial focus was for intermediate and advanced adult players, we are always expanding our repertoire to include styles of gameplay for beginners as well. To use the dry and worn out idiom, we like to “think outside of the box” or in this case, “think outside of the murder mystery box game”.

Murder Mystery Board Games:

Can it get any more classic than a murder mystery board game? You know which one I’m talking about. The one with the colonel, the professor, the various assorted colors, and assorted murder weapons like pipes and candlesticks (highly ineffective murder devices if you ask me). Who doesn’t love to play this classic game? I’ll be the first to admit that I have an extreme pension for board games. I have a wall of board games in my basement that unfortunately have been gathering dust for the last few months. Sure, I’ve found some substitutions in using online mediums to play my favorite board games with friends, but I wanted to do something new, something beyond murder mystery board games. Dastardly Deed Murder Mysteries have given me that opportunity to explore new realms of gameplay and new styles and varieties of content that we never imagined doing before. While it’s always fun to move that yellow colonel into the billiards room and envision that you bashed someone in the head with a wrench, why not play as the colonel and slip into the next room and murder someone with more contextual zeal? At Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries, this form of open concept gameplay is exactly what drives us. Maybe you don’t want to bash someone’s head in with a wrench? Maybe you want to seduce the son of the mansion’s owner and convince an ex-convict to kill off the father thus assuring you will inherit his fortune along with his grieving son. Now that’s a strategy, that’s fun, and that’s something beyond murder mystery board games. Dastardly Deeds games challenge you to think on your toes and conceptualize your goals and abilities and how to utilize them best to achieve your character’s desires. As we increase our catalog of online and in-person murder mysteries, I can’t help but enjoy and relish every unique setting and situation that I’ve been placed in as both a character and as a host. Even the most complex legacy murder mystery board games that tout a different result every single time have nothing on the complexity of outcomes in a Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries game. When you add in the human factor of individuals in a free format style game each with their own objectives and goals, madness and hilarity are sure to us ensue.

As the game concludes and secrets are revealed not everyone is satisfied with the fate that awaits the human race.
