Gameplay:
Welcome to Chrome Wastelands. Chrome Wastelands is unlike the murder mysteries that you may have played in the past. It is part roleplaying game, part geocaching, part flash mob, and part murder mystery party. The Host of your game will be playing the role of the Arbiter and they will be determining the will of the people of Iron Water. Their word is law during the game. Chrome Wastelands is best played in an abandoned parking lot or location where players can meet and bring their best costumes and “war Rigs”. This location will represent the settlement of Iron Water and the spot where the Arbiter of succession will determine who will become the next lord of the settlement. Throughout the game, the players will attempt to gain the people’s favor through their exploits. This will include multiple Pilgrimages (short drives) out into the Wastelands (everywhere outside of the parking lot) where the players will gather favors for the people and attempt to equip their Rigs with various Parts for the Death Derby at the climax of the game. Below are the basics on how to play the game, a timeline for the game, and an explanation of the components that you can find in this Character Document and on your Character Sheet which will be printed for you to use on the day of the game.
Seeing as this is unlike other murder mystery games there are a few things you will need to prepare ahead of time before the game. For starters, there is a decent chance that a bunch of people dressed like they are in the apocalypse in an empty parking lot might call some attention, so make sure you leave all substance or any items that look like weapons at home for this game. Seriously, don’t bring any drugs, alcohol, or weapons. Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries is not responsible for any actions you take outside the confines of the law in the region you are playing in. Along these lines, you will be driving vehicles, and inebriation and driving never mix! Another important thing to keep in mind is that any character that is a Driver will need to have a functioning, street-legal vehicle, with enough gas to travel several miles during the game. Drivers should also obey all traffic laws and speed regulations while performing tasks. During these in-game Pilgrimages, all players will need roughly $5 to help them perform various tasks. You may be asked upon by the people to visit merchants in the Wastelands, so wear something that you are comfortable wearing in public. You will also want to bring a fully charged phone along. While you will be provided with a printed Character Sheet from your host when you arrive, if you want to reference your Character Document you will need to do so on your phone. Your phone will also be especially important when you set out on your missions during the game. Last and certainly not least, everyone should come decked out in their finest post-apocalyptic-Wasteland gear.
