Gameplay:
A Conventional Murder is a contemporary murder mystery set during a fan convention dedicated to the fictional book series named Gladiator Universe. It is intended to be played by 10 to 15 players, not including the Host. This game centers around the controversial subject of Gladiator Universe being turned into a tv series. There are some classic convention tropes such as die-hard fans who want to emulate the famous time-traveling gladiator from the book to collectors looking for the best items in a silent auction.
If this is your first time playing a Dastardly Deeds Murder Mystery, here is a quick rundown on how everything works. First and foremost, these games are designed for players to have fun in a party environment and aren’t about winning or losing. As you will find throughout the game, the lines between victory and defeat are not only blurry but arguably subjective. Your goal, besides having fun, is to portray your character to the best of your abilities. However, you don’t need to act your part out if you are not comfortable with pretending. Simply know your role and do your best to answer questions and converse in the manner that you feel your character would. You are in control of how you want to play your character. If something about your background is not written, you are at full liberty to make up anything you would like as long as it doesn’t conflict with what has been established in your character background. This game will last roughly two hours and the host will be there to answer questions before you start and as the game proceeds. As a final note, the host’s word is law and if there are any disputes about abilities or actions taken, they will be the arbiter.
