After Covid

After Covid:

Is it time? Can we poke our heads out? I mean, it started with some tapas, or with that small party at a friend’s place, or maybe with some private room karaoke. Worth it for how hard you crushed that Tom Petty song! Seriously though. Is it after covid now? It’s time to take your murder mysteries off Zoom, Discord, Teams, and Skype… Wait, you still use Skype? No judgment. Just sayin’. If you and your crew are ready for some primo in-person murder mysteries and role-playing games, we’ve got what you want: Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries Games. Here at Dastardly Deeds, we have always been good at planning, like when we launched our first game roughly seven days before lockdowns hit Colorado. In a panic, we switched our model to start crafting online games ASAP. To be honest, at the time we had no idea how to facilitate such a drastic jump. We never had any intention of switching our games to the realm of Zoom, which was a hot steaming pile of security risk at the time. Nevertheless, we persevered and created new unique online games that have set us apart from any other games on the market. It’s time to leave the sad little laggy box of faces behind us now. Cast off the unintentional muting! Ditch all the technical difficulties! We realized from the beggining that there would be a time after covid and are planning to adapt older games for both in-person and online play. Keep your eyes peeled (gross) as we will be adding supplementary rules to almost all our games to facilitate both online and in-person gameplay. That being said, it’s our time to start focusing on in-person games once again.

Back to In-person:

We started dabbling with the idea of going back to in-person roughly a year ago during the fabled hot vax summer of 2021. We even crafted a small group in-person game about death in a hostile work environment (keep an eye out as this game will be launching by the end of 2022). It was a baby step. From getting together in small groups to playing outside, we balanced safety precautions to the comfort levels of our playtesters and hosts. Everything was on track for back to in-person, aside from the small hiccup that was Omicron. No matter what your viewpoints are, respect those who are still uncomfortable meeting up in large groups in-person. If you are ready, Dastardly Deeds is ready for you! With in-person games on our minds, we were lucky to have the opportunity to expand our reach of players this year at Jordancon 2022. We hosted a pair of games during the week before the convention started. It was a perfect chance to play our newest game, A Conventional Murder.

We are in the process of playtesting to adapt online games for in-person.

Thanks again to all our playtesters that helped us prepare this game for the convention!

A Conventional Murder:

What kind of murder mystery game do you write for a convention? The answer was clear. Write a game revolving around death at a convention. Was that just a low-hanging branch? Maybe… Without giving away too much about the game, A Conventional Murder had death, betrayal, collectibles, guest stars, celebrity signings, lies, thievery, off-the-wall characters, and everything dastardly. Best of all, this is our first large game in two years that is intended first and foremost to be played in-person! The game is designed for 10-15 moderately warped individuals who are comfortable meeting up in-person and sharing in some stupendous shenanigans. Again, not to give away any of the specifics of the game, but this is a slightly different style than any of our other games. It has some twists that are uniquely suited for your long overdue celebrations with friends, family, and coworkers. A Conventional Murder is… unconventional… see what I did there? We’re overjoyed, as always, to share our games with any newcomers out there and are thrilled for you to share them with your crews. A Conventional Murder will be launching Friday, May 6th.

If you feel that it’s time to get your crew together for a long-overdue murder mystery party or even if you never stopped partying, it’s time for some new in-person Dastardly Deeds Murder Mysteries. Even if you’re not ready, we still have a variety of online games that are ready to be played through a multitude of different video chat systems (maybe not Skype though… sorry Skype… I guess). Keep your eyes open for game adaptations including supplemental rules to get our older online games in-person ready. Go forth murder mystery adventures and start to plan your next game! Bring some drinks, bring some hors d’oeuvres, ditch that 25-pound bag of rice you bought during the lockdown, and get out there and mix it up, it’s after covid!

Cheers!
